About the owner

Drew Guthrie — Owner & Lead Estimator

I run every in-home measure at Temecula Windows & Doors personally — Temecula, Murrieta, Menifee, Escondido, Carlsbad, the whole 75-mile route. If you sign a quote with us, you've met me first. No salesman, no sub-contracted crew, no second contact who doesn't know the project.

Background

I started in construction on my grandfather's crew when I was 16 — hauling materials, pulling demo, learning the trade from the framing up. That's three generations of Guthrie builders working Southern California homes: my grandfather framed tract houses in the 1960s, my father ran remodels through the 1980s and 1990s, and I grew up on those job sites before stepping into my own work in the early 2000s.

That's 22+ years on my own count, and a lot longer than that if you count the years I was holding the other end of a tape measure as a kid. The trade isn't abstract for me. When I quote a window retrofit on a 1988 Paloma del Sol tract home, I've probably installed on a dozen of the same floor plan — I know where the headers run, where the stucco cracks hide, and where the original sub-contractor cut a corner three decades ago.

Service route

Temecula is home base and always will be. My 75-mile service radius runs north through Murrieta, Menifee, Wildomar, Lake Elsinore, and Hemet; west into Fallbrook and Escondido; and south through San Marcos, Vista, Carlsbad, Oceanside, Rancho Bernardo, and Poway. I drive this route every week, not occasionally. Temecula Windows & Doors is a service-area business based in Temecula, CA — we don't have branches, we have trucks and a route.

I meet every homeowner in person for the measure visit. It usually takes 30-45 minutes, runs the spec sheet, photographs every opening, and lands a written quote in your inbox inside 48 hours. On the install day, I'm on site for the start of the job and back for the final walk — the same faces you met on the measure are the ones in the driveway on day one.

What "no subcontracted middlemen" means in practice

Most Southern California window and door companies sub out their installs. The salesperson you meet isn't the installer, the installer isn't the project manager, and when something goes wrong the three people you're trying to coordinate don't work for the same company. That's where jobs fall apart.

My crews are in-house. Same four people across every Temecula Windows & Doors project in Temecula, Escondido, Fallbrook, and the rest of the service area. They carry W-2s, not 1099s. They know the brand spec sheets we install, they know the $ Riverside County and San Diego County permit path, and they answer to me, not a subcontracting middleman. That's the workmanship warranty you sign — two years in writing on top of the manufacturer's limited lifetime on the glass and frame, with the same crew accountable on day one and day 700.

Areas of expertise

  • California Title 24 Part 6 retrofit compliance. U-factor 0.30 ceiling in Climate Zone 10, CF1R forms, NFRC label packet documentation, inspector walk-throughs. Every Temecula Windows & Doors window and patio-slider install ships with the paperwork ready for the city file.
  • California Residential Code (2022 CRC). Egress window net-clear-opening calcs (5.7 sq ft upper-floor, 5.0 sq ft ground-floor), bedroom emergency-escape requirements, header engineering for widened rough openings.
  • WUI / Chapter 7A wildfire glazing. Tempered dual-pane glass, 20-minute fire-rated exterior doors on attached garages, ignition-resistant frames, CBC Chapter 7A compliance documentation. Critical on WUI-overlay parcels in Fallbrook, Poway, east Escondido, and the Temecula Valley Wine Country canyons.
  • HOA architectural review navigation. Submission packages for Redhawk, Paloma del Sol, Crowne Hill, Harveston, Roripaugh Ranch (Temecula); Copper Canyon, Bear Creek, The Colony (Murrieta); San Elijo Hills, Aviara, Bressi Ranch (north San Diego County); and dozens of others. Spec sheet + exterior color chip + install-date window — everything the board needs, packaged up front.
  • Sliding, multi-track, and large folding-door systems. Drew's specialty — 3- to 5-panel stack, pocket, and multi-track configurations across every major manufacturer, top-hung and floor-supported hardware, engineered header design, shear-wall detailing.
  • Retrofit vs. new-construction flange decisions. Matching the install method to the existing wall assembly, minimizing stucco disturbance, flashing integration.
  • Sundeck structural engineering. Ledger attachment, joist hanger selection, Simpson galvanized hardware, guardrail code compliance (CRC R312).

Why I started Temecula Windows & Doors

Family name on the truck means the crew shows up the way it would show up at my own house. That's the short version. The long version is that after too many years watching sub-contracted installs go sideways, written quotes become loose estimates, and homeowners left to chase warranty claims on products the installer didn't actually install, I wanted to run a company where that didn't happen. So Temecula Windows & Doors is run that way — the measure, the quote, the install, and the warranty all live under one roof, and that roof has my name on it.

Most of our work comes from referrals. That's the feedback loop I trust. If the neighbor two doors down liked the install, the next call comes from that block. We don't run a big ad budget, we don't have a call-center salesperson writing generic quotes, and we don't pretend to be a national franchise. We're a local Temecula window and door shop with a 75-mile route and a customer list that keeps growing by word of mouth.
